Name 18 - KunjaresvaraGamini

KunjaresvaraGamini

All Glories to Divine Mother!

I offer my obeisance to the Divine Mother my Kali. Who chooses Her 18thname to be KunjaresvaraGamini. Kunj means elephant. Kunjaresvara means the lord of elephants. In the Hindu mythological tradition Airavata is considered to the lord of elephants. So KunjaresvaraGamini means the One who walks like the Lord of elephants Airavata. Airavata came into existence due to Samudra Manthan that took place with the joint efforts of Devas and Asuras. Airavata was one of the treasures that came out of the ocean. He is spotless white, with seven trunks, a true immaculate beauty. He was so royal in his looks that Indra immediately claimed him.

Airavata is symbolic of indisputable might, beauty and royalty. No wonder then why Divine Mother is called KunjaresvaraGamini. She, who is the epitome of power, wealth and supreme beauty. Having said that, an elephant’s walk is associated with enormous grace. Even though an elephant is extremely powerful, he treads the ground softly. Thus walks the Divine Mother carrying all that might, an ounce of which is sufficient to destroy armies of demons.  No one in the three worlds and the entire cosmos has the audacity to challenge the might of Supreme Mother. Her walk leaves one and all awestruck and spellbound. Yet when She walks She does it with infallible grace. She is aware of Her expansive power and what such power is capable of doing. But while walking She chooses to sway gently by putting Her feet on the ground with utmost care. The Empress of the universe, with highest authority over anything and everything, walks gracefully and gorgeously with the boundless care of a Mother. She is at the zenith of power. She is also the embodiment of pure love and care for all Her children.

Salutations to the One who prefers to be KunjaresvaraGamini!
