Kala means time and maha means great. Nitambini means the one who has beautiful backside. Time is immensely powerful. It holds the potential of turning an emperor into a pauper in an instance. Time is gripping too. Its influence on life forms continues to be lifetime after lifetime. It keeps an account of each and every action performed and proffers results accordingly. No one except the Siddhas, can ever know what the next moment is pregnant with. Whether it is going to bring fortune or affliction remains a mystery. But, what is the basis of time? How did it come into existence?
MahakalaNitambini means the Mother of eternal time of the cosmos. She is the cause of the existence of time. Time stems from Her. Using Her creative force to run the universe smoothly, She created time. She is above time and is not bound by it. She makes Her devotees free from the clutches of time. Does that mean they become free from pain or struggle that time may roll their way? No. With the grace of MahakalaNitambini the devotee sees that happiness, sorrow, pain, peace, abundance, paucity are all phases of time. Out of Her sheer blessing the devotee knows that time is ever changing and every phase passes. Phases are unavoidable but suffering is a choice. Those who surrender to Her get the strength to see through all the stages of time with perseverance. And Her compassion is such that She protects Her devotees during their tough time.
A true devotee places his faith on the Lotus Feet of Divine Mother, MahakalaNitambini and sails through life fearlessly. The current may be rough or smooth but the devotee sings the glories of Divine Mother, for he knows She is the ultimate, timeless destination he is heading for.
